Summary

Qiong Luo, doctor tutor, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Health, School of Public Health, Wuhan University. She received her bachelor's degree from Tongji medical college of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1982 and her doctor's degree from Department of Food Science, Huazhong Agricultural University in 1994. She is a member of China Mutagen Society, food service food safety experts of State Food and Drug Administration, vice chairman of Hubei Provincial Food Safety Risk Assessment Committee, a member of Hubei Province Food Safety Standards Committee.

Dr.Luo has beening teaching for more than 30 years both at graduate and postgraduate level, as the leading teacher of undergraduate lessons of "Hygiene" , "Clinical Nutrition", "Nutrition and Food Health", "Preventive Medicine", "Introduction to Public Health" and graduate lessons of " Nutrition and Security of Food", "Toxicology", "Public Health Case Study " for postgraduate students. She was mainly involved in writing and editing "Environment and Eugenics", "Food Safety Hazards and Control", "Clinical Nutrition", " Trace Elements and Health", " Prevention and Control of Public Health Emergencies ", "Modern Food Health" and other teaching materials.

Dr.Luo’s research interests included nutritional factors and chronic disease control, food safety and health, and sports nutrition and health. In the aspect of nutritional factors and chronic disease control, she researches the physiological function and anti-tumor activity of dietary fiber and sterols active substance in by-products from processing edible fungi, human prostate carcinoma cells growth inhibition of phytochemicals in fruit and vegetable juice, intervention effect of LBP (Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharides) on diabetic complication such as diabetic nephropathy ,diabetic erectile dysfunction and development of LBP products. A series of topics have been presided and accomplished by her, such as researching the protective effect of LBP on reproductive system injury in male rats; researching the repair effect of LBP on cavernous nerve injury in rats; studying the intervention effect and mechanism of KP (Kelp Polysaccharide ) on reproductive damage in male rats with chronic ionizing radiation; determining a variety of biological function(immune function, lowering blood glucose, blood lipid and blood pressure, anti fatigue, anti lipid peroxidation, anti radiation etc.) on active ingredients of LBP, Eucommia Ulmoides, KP; extracting, separating and deep processing of effective components flavonoid glycoside in ginkgo leaf. In the aspect of food safety and health, she has presided and accomplished " the application of the general principles of risk assessment ", " risk assessment of acrylamide in foods ", " establishment of food poisoning analysis software", " research of anti-radiation food". In the aspect of sports nutrition and health, she hosted, participated in and accomplished the " nutritional supplement research of athletes in outstanding physical fitness project of Hubei Province ", "the national physique survey and analysis" and other topics; chaired and completed a nutrition survey of athlete in the province rowing, weightlifting, boxing, shooting team.

Since 2000, Dr. Luo has undertaken 20 national and provincial research projects with 15 in vertical type and 5 in transverse type. More than 50 papers have been published at core domestic and international journals. 8 research appraisal results have been respectively up to international leading level, international advanced and domestic leading level. The research" anti radiation effects of plant polysaccharides and research & development of its radiation protection food" has won the 2nd prize both in Hubei Science and Technology Progress and Wuhan Science and Technology Progress; "human prostate cancer cell growth inhibition of phytochemicals in fruit and vegetable juice (Tomato Juice, Grape Juice) " won the 3rd prize in the Hubei Science and Technology Progress; "anti radiation food" won the 3rd prize in Army Science and Technology Progress.
